Mauritius has a particularly unique vernacular heritage which reflects the traditional design, colours and decoration of Oriental, African and Western styles, ranging from the last vestiges of colonial Creole architecture to windswept seaside campements. The seaside campements have walls made of ravenala palm leaves and vetier and sugar cane thatched roofs. Corrugated metal roofs have become more common than timber or thatch, which we have on this pair of buildings which had exposed insulation internally. We have added thatch screening to the roof internally to reference the campement style.
