Nestled along the Kent coast, this carefully crafted extension transforms a narrow property into a generous family home, drawing inspiration from the rugged beauty of the stone beaches and the gentle curves of the shoreline.
The proposed design aims to extend both the side and rear of the property, accompanied by internal modifications intended to provide the client with an enhanced, functional open-plan living and dining environment.
The interiors are treated as distinct “treasure boxes,” each with its own palette and crafted detail. The hallway celebrates its original brick wall under a tall skylit ceiling; the kitchen pairs dark wood, Caesarstone and ribbed glass with pale oak floors; the stair joinery creates a clean, calm backdrop. Each element is carefully composed, like the lining of a lacquered box.
One of the house’s most striking “treasure boxes” is the ground floor bathroom, where Roerich-inspired mountain mosaics wrap continuously across all walls. White and green pebbles rise into jagged peaks against pink-ochre plaster, transforming the compact room into a painted interior landscape.
Using the ancient method of image transfer by guideline grids, each wall surface is carefully set out so the mountain forms align across corners, doors and fittings. A technical drawing becomes the key to unlocking another crafted box in the sequence of interiors.
Upstairs continues the theme of individually decorated boxes. The landing shimmers with woven pendants; the bathroom layers brass, stone and delicate ceramics; the children’s room unfolds like a painted casket with murals of birds and trees. Each space communicates joy of life and nature, unique yet part of a collection.
